What to see, eat and drink in Zabłocie, Krakow
Two museums share the old enamelworks yard at Lipowa 4. Within a short walk you have 20 craft taps, a steel block cantilevered over the Vistula and a footbridge into Kazimierz.
By Rhys LlewellynKraków on foot — sights, neighbourhoods and the slow city

Behind the factory gate at ul. Lipowa 4, the grey-and-brick sheds of the former DEF enamelworks stand round a yard. One set holds the museum of Oskar Schindler's factory, and white sawtooth-roofed halls grafted onto the rest hold Polish contemporary art. Allow two hours for the first.
The two museums at Lipowa 4

Oskar Schindler's Enamel Factory (ul. Lipowa 4) is the sight that draws people to Zabłocie, and the reason most visitors cross the river at all. The museum stands on the ground the enamelworks occupied, and the display keeps returning to that fact. One room has a glass floor strewn with enamel pots and pans. Beyond it, recreated ghetto-apartment corridors narrow to the width of a passage.
Entry is 60 zł, or 45 zł reduced, and 45 zł a head for groups of eight or more. Book a slot ahead in season. A guided tour has to be reserved in advance and costs 390 zł per group plus entry. School visits are arranged by email only.
MOCAK, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Kraków (ul. Lipowa 4), shares the same courtyard. Its white modernist halls are linked by a long glass-walled corridor, and the galleries are bright under skylights. Mirosław Bałka's neon-style text work 'AUSHWITZWIELICZKA' hangs among them. Entry is 30 zł, or 20 zł reduced, and Tuesday is free. Guided tours and education workshops are booked in advance through the museum.

Take the wartime factory first and cross the yard afterwards. Heavy history and sharp Polish art come in one stop, and no other pair of sights in the district costs you so little walking.

Eight minutes west to plac Bohaterów Getta
Eagle Pharmacy (plac Bohaterów Getta 18) is eight minutes' walk west of Lipowa 4, over the line in Podgórze. Tadeusz Pankiewicz ran it as the only Polish business inside the ghetto, and the museum keeps to the small rooms of the pharmacy itself. It covers the same history as the factory, seen from inside the ghetto, so walk it the same morning.

Outside the grey corner building, a field of 70 oversized empty iron-and-steel chairs stands across the square. Entry is 22 zł, or 16 zł reduced, and Wednesday is free. The museum closes on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Cricoteka and the Vistula bank

Cricoteka (ul. Nadwiślańska 2-4) is a rust-coloured steel block raised on legs above a red-brick riverside power station, cantilevered out over the Vistula bank like an upside-down table. It holds Tadeusz Kantor's papers and looks after what his Cricot 2 theatre left behind. The permanent show, 'Terapia widzeń', is 25 zł, or 15 zł reduced, and shows in the small Szatnia Gallery are 10 zł. Doors open Tuesday to Sunday, 11:00 to 19:00, and Wednesday is free.
From there, Bulwar Lotników Alianckich and Bulwar Podolski (the Zabłocie bank) run as one wide paved promenade along the right bank, with benches along it and cyclists passing. The path goes under the steel railway bridge towards the white arch of Kotlarski Bridge, and Kazimierz rooftops sit across the water. It is a flat 10 minutes to the Kładka Bernatka footbridge, which crosses to Kazimierz. The embankment is public and free, with no gate and no ticket, and after two hours in the factory most people want the walk.
The city has modernisation works planned on the boulevards from 2026. Expect fenced stretches and a diversion or two.
Murals on Zabłocie street
Zabłocie is one of the three districts that hold most of Kraków's murals, and the largest of them costs nothing to stand in front of. Mariusz Waras painted his M-City mural (ul. Zabłocie 27) in 2021 on a blank concrete gable: imaginary factory machinery in black and white, with a wartime Liberator bomber worked into it. New glass-and-steel loft blocks now stand round the wall.
The Lipowa Ekomural is the second piece to look for, on Lipowa, close to the museum courtyard. Both are open-air at any hour and cost nothing.
Coffee and breakfast first
KNITTED Coffee Zabłocie (ul. Przemysłowa 4) opens at 07:30 on weekdays, ahead of the museums. It is a family-run specialty roaster, and the brew bar works with scales and filter cones. The shelves are open and loaded with balls of wool and yarn, the soft furnishings pastel. Coffee is 14 zł to 22 zł, breakfast plates 30 zł to 45 zł.

Emalia Zabłocie (ul. Tadeusza Romanowicza 5) takes its name from the pre-war enamel factory that stood on the street, and the room nods to it in exposed brick and enamelware. Bread is baked on the premises. Breakfast starts at 09:00 and runs 30 zł to 45 zł, and mains are 50 zł to 80 zł, with rumsztyk, pierogi and homemade pasta. It is 200 m from the factory gate, which makes it the better choice if you have a booked museum slot. A second site in Podgórze takes the overflow when the Zabłocie room is full.

Lunch and dinner round the factory gate

ORZO Arancia Zabłocie (ul. Lipowa 4A) is at the museum gate, greenery hanging through the room and a wood-fired oven at the back. The pizza is AVPN-certified Neapolitan, and pizza and pasta run 45 zł to 70 zł. The vegetarian and vegan choice is wide and the bar makes cocktails. Side terraces open right beside the factory gate, the dining room is the largest in the area and reservations are taken.

Hala Lipowa (ul. Lipowa 4D) is a brick industrial hall with exposed roof trusses, long communal tables and a central bar of 20 craft taps. Greek, Italian, meat-focused and Japanese counters line the walls, and each person orders at their own counter. Plates run 35 zł to 70 zł and a beer is 16 zł to 25 zł. On Friday and Saturday it serves to 01:30. The garden has outdoor seating when the hall fills.
Hankki (ul. Zabłocie 19A) cooks Korean food with Japanese touches in a pared-back ground-floor room of a modern apartment block at the eastern end of the street, pale wood and white walls, a few tables outside. Small plates and bibimbap bowls come to 60 zł to 140 zł a head, and the Michelin Guide lists it. Doors open at 12:00, and the kitchen stops earlier than the bars do. The room is small, so book ahead, and it will not take a party of more than six.

Wine and late drinks
Krako Slow Wines (ul. Lipowa 6F) is almost next door to the factory, a converted warehouse with racks running floor to ceiling, wooden crates stacked under a bare industrial ceiling and a Georgian grill truck parked in the yard. More than 100 natural wines come from Central and Eastern Europe, among them Georgia, Hungary, Armenia and Poland. Glasses start at 25 zł, and cheese, charcuterie and Caucasian boards are 45 zł to 80 zł. Tastings can be arranged. The room is tight, so book if there are more than six of you.

Salute! Bar Zabłocie (ul. Tadeusza Romanowicza 4) is the district's default early-evening stop, a terracotta-and-wood corner room with bottles backlit behind the counter and a pavement terrace on a quiet loft-block street. Italian-Spanish small plates are 25 zł to 45 zł and cocktails 30 zł to 45 zł. Weekday lunch runs 12:00 to 17:00, and weekend breakfast 10:00 to 12:45. On Friday and Saturday it serves to midnight. Zabłocie keeps almost no late nightlife of its own.
Drukarnia Jazz Club (ul. Nadwiślańska 1) sits just over Zabłocie's western edge on the riverside, two minutes' walk from Cricoteka. Old printing-press paraphernalia and mismatched retro-industrial furniture fill four rooms, each with its own bar, and the terrace faces the Vistula. The basement stage carries jazz, stand-up or dance parties at weekends, and weekend concerts may be ticketed. Cocktails are 35 zł to 50 zł. It opens at 09:00 and runs to 01:00, or 04:00 on Friday and Saturday, so a late Zabłocie evening tends to finish here.

Where to stay in Zabłocie
Qubus Hotel Kraków (ul. Nadwiślańska 6) is the only full-service hotel on the district's doorstep, a glass-fronted block on the Vistula next to Cricoteka and 10 minutes' walk from Schindler's Factory. A swimming pool and hot tub occupy the top floor behind a full-height window looking across the river to the Old Town skyline, and guest reviews single out the breakfast. Doubles with breakfast run 300 zł to 500 zł, and parking is on site. The rest of Zabłocie is loft apartments.

Closed days and bookings
Eagle Pharmacy closes on Mondays and Tuesdays and Cricoteka opens Tuesday to Sunday, so build the museum day around that, and expect fenced sections on the riverside boulevards. Reserve a factory slot in season, and a table at Hankki or Krako Slow Wines before you walk over. See the Krakow guide and the Krakow hotel search.
