A hundred percent recommend this hostel. It's clean, staff are helpful and friedly and it's a great place to meet people through the free events. The free salsa class was so fun. We also played beer pong on Halloween and it was a great chance to meet other travellers. The dorms are so comfortable and you have space to lock valuables and to have a dark screen over your bed so you can rest and it feels very private. Showers have hot water and are lovely. The breakfast is so good too

We spent two nights in a standard double room with a private bathroom at Masaya Bogotá. We really liked the hostel itself, but unfortunately, we have to make some significant compromises regarding the room. The Positives: The location is ideal for exploring the historic old town of Bogotá on foot. There are many bars and restaurants nearby, yet the area is pleasantly quiet. The online check-in went absolutely smoothly, and the overall atmosphere in the hostel is extremely positive and welcoming. The value for money is also a big plus. The breakfast was very good; you can choose from four à la carte options (although unfortunately, one of them was already unavailable at 7:00 AM). The service was also helpful: when we initially only had one towel in our room, another one was brought to us immediately. The Negatives: Our room was essentially located in the basement of an old building, which leads to our biggest point of criticism: the extreme humidity and cold. Even the provided space heater in the room could not dry the air. Everything – from the towels and the bed linen to the clothes in our backpacks – was damp and cold, which unfortunately meant we slept very poorly. In addition, the bed linen had many stains. The room is modern and simply furnished, but it lacks practical elements: there are no hooks for jackets, and the small desk is missing a chair or stool. Conclusion: Old buildings are certainly a challenge, but Masaya urgently needs to do something to get the humidity in these rooms under control. Given the good value for money and the great atmosphere, we were not completely dissatisfied, but we would definitely not book this specific room again.

A nice albeit quiet common area. The coffee in the mornings is a great way to unwind and the staff are always cleaning these areas and the toilets. Good location in a safe (ish) neighborhood with lots of cafes. However, my bunk had a left over plaster in it, the sheets I was given had brown and yellow stains all over them and my partners were black stained. Not to mention the electric outlet fried my charger so I will now have to purchase another one. Overall not a terrible stay but I won't sacrifice a clean place to save a bit of money.

We had a really great experience here! Masaya had everything we needed in a great location. It was clean, cosy, and reasonable. We were welcomed by Gabriel who answered every question we had and helped when we needed it. Would reccomend

Update: I was overcharged a night's stay. I pointed this out 3 days before leaving Bogotá. I was told staff tomorrow can deal with it. Tomorrow came, I was told I'll be reimbursed upon checkout. Come checkout I was told the money will be deposited back in my account.. still waiting and chasing 2-3 week's later. Despite writing to me about the topic via WhatsApp, they're now not responding. I guess I'm could also mention that the room was freezing and the heater didn't work.. Initial review (while stay was ongoing) I've had an excellent stay at Masala, indeed so much so that I extended my stay twice. The staff were super friendly, helpful and responsive and made me feel at home, thanks in particular to Hugo, Natalia y Marta for making my stay so enjoyable!
